1. What type of medium do you work with and explain how you use it?

(Paint, design, photography, collage)

The majority of my personal work is done by screenprinting.  I use a lot of overlapping of colors to get as much out of each screen as possible.  I work with acrylic a lot as well but because of the graphic nature of my pieces they can become tedious.  Screenprinting allows me to get clean lines and big flat shapes of color without having to fuss over it.

2. What was your main interest in producing this artwork, or is there a statement you wanted to convey?

Nature seems to be a reoccurring theme in my work.  This started when I was in school and felt more detached from the outdoors than I had ever been in my life.  Everything was seen through a window and even then it usually had a sprinkler system.  Very recently though, I have been taking more from past experiences which has been kind of refreshing.

3. Tell us about your creative process, do you have any rituals, routines you follow? How does your artwork come together? (Do you use found objects, image banks, etc)

Everything starts out as multiple thumbnail sketches of an idea.  The idea either being my own or from a client.  After settling on a basic design it becomes almost like a puzzle.  I spend the majority of the time at this stage, working out scale, texture, balance etc.  I pretty much know what a piece is going to look like before I even put any paint or ink down.

4. How did you get started with your artistic career?

I was lucky enough to be hired right out of school for a couple illustration jobs which opened up a lot of doors for me.

5. What would you say is one of your greatest accomplishments?

I think the thing I am most proud of is the fact that I am able to create for a living.  That might not sound like a big deal but I feel very fortunate to make a career out of being an artist.

6. Where does your inspiration come from? Or is there any particular movement, artwork or artist you find yourself influenced by?

My inspiration comes from everywhere.  Everyday life.  As far as my style goes it has been a bit of creative progression that is hard for me to nail down to a particular source.  Some people that I admire and are probably influenced by in some way are David Weidman, the Stenberg brothers, Charley Harper and Geoff Mcfettridge to name a few.

7. How do you see your artwork evolving from now?

I am hoping to do some larger pieces in the near future.  I just need more space in order to make them.  As far as content goes i am not sure.  I try to let change happen organically and not force it.
