Fabrikalink took the opportunity for a Q&A with Venezuela's latest sensation, La Vida Boheme. Just in time for their Miami show at PAX this Thursday!

by Jessica Roiz

Henry D'Arthenay, Daniel de Sousa, Sebastian Ayala, and Rafael Perez Medina are the four members that make up La Vida Boheme. Caracas, Venezuela is home to this uprising independent punk band, which has had positive feedback from the media and fans worldwide with the release of their debut, "Nuestra." This quartet is currently on tour promoting their album, as well as, celebrating not one, but two, Latin Grammy nominations.

Fabrika Link: "Nuestra," an album with a lot of punk rock and dance, yet powerful lyrics on current world issues. Where does La Vida Boheme get their musical influence and what inspires them to write the music they do?
La Vida Boheme: Musically...poetic justice....hehe I think. The Talking Heads ripped off Fela Kuti and now we are ripping off the Talking Heads. So, I believe that´s what moved us to making an album in which we could pass our cultural filter to a lot of the stuff we grew up listening to, like The Clash, The Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, etc. Lyrically we are suckers for Caracas, everything we do, we do it for our city and our country. I don´t think it´s possible for us to write detached of or environment. "Nuestra," in that sense, is a cronic of what it was for us growing up there.

FL: How has the U.S. Market reacted with the release of "Nuestra"?
LVB: Well, this is just our second time here. Our first tour was in July where we got to play New York, Philly and Miami. It was amazing because in NYC we got to play at the LAMC. We were very surprised to see that a lot of people, spanish and non spanish speakers, came to our shows. Now, we are blown away not only to be Jarabe De Palo´s opening act in California, but also to be nominated for the Grammy and having just one record out. We are also excited of having the Miami gig at PAX with just some few days of notice. We feel very blessed, indeed.

FL: How does it feel being nominated for two Latin Grammy's; Best Rock Album for "Nuestra" and Best Rock Song for "Radio Capital"?
LVB:
Have you seen the video on YouTube of the kid getting a Nintendo 64 forChristmas? That’s kind of how we feel right now.

FL: What upcoming plans does La Vida Boheme have?
LVB: Well, we just finished our second record and we will probably be releasing that very soon. We are very excited about it and I think we will play some of the songs during this U.S. Tour. We are going to be playing with Jarabe De Palo the 6th of November at "4th and B" in San Diego, Ca; the 8th at Santa Ana,Ca in the "Yost Theater"; the 9th at Las Vegas in "Artifice Bar" as part of Remezcla´s Grammy party, and we will play Los Angeles on the 11th in "Eastside Luv." Please, if you can, come check it out...and bring paint :)

FL: What are your expectations for the Miami show on November 3rd?
LVB: The Miami show will be our longest set during this U.S. tour. We will play some of the new songs, so I hope the Florida crowd digs them. We´ve been working on the recording during these past three months and we want to see how they react to it. Last time we played here we just got to play a very short set, so you could say it´s payback time.

As the band mentioned, their Miami show was a last minute thing. It is sooo last minute that it is literally right around the corner. If you are in the Miami area, don't forget to catch La Vida Boheme live, performing songs from their Latin Grammy nominated album "Nuestra" as well as new songs. The band promises a kick ass time with their eclectic dance punk and powerful lyrics that will leave you wanting more. To top it all off, I heard they play one hell of a show!
