Music evolves like everything in the world. In the case of Palenke Soultribe, is not the exception with the evolution of Colombian roots sound with electronic elements and an eye-candy live show that brings the crowd into a dance mood in seconds.
We had the chance to see them live and share a few words to learn more about the project with a set of questions:
Give us a general idea about what Palenke Soultribe is:
We combine elements from Colombian folkloric music and art with more contemporary sounding genres specially electronica.
What's involved in the creative process?
We don't have a specific formula. Sometimes somebody comes up with some synth lines and we build over that. Other times songs are written in guitar, sometimes we build over folkloric patterns or even jamming we create stuff. We always let the artist we work with add ideas or write pieces.
Where are you guys from and why L.A?
We are from Colombia but we've been based in LA for 5 years now. Why LA? Life brought us here naturally...this is a hub for entertainment it's been helpful for us.
Talk a little bit about PST live
We pay a lot of attention and detail to our shows. We don't want it to be a boring collection of songs. We want it to be a whole experience from beginning to end… It is symphonic in the sense that it has no interruptions and a lot of dynamic changes. The visuals and lighting take a big role too. Our idea is to try to transport the audience to a “Carnaval” in our native Colombia.
Any plans for national / international tour?
At his stage it is hard to plan a 45-cities tour. What we do is to go little by little trying to chain venues once we are in a certain area. So we have mini-tours.
We did 6 gigs in Miami at the beginning of the year. 4 in New york during LAMC Next is Mexico and South America. Next year looks promising for us. Europe is the next step.
Any upcoming releases soon?
Yes ORO the first of a trilogy (That will be completed with MAR and SANGRE) will se the light on July 30th. We had great collaborations on that one, like Locos Por Juana, Elastic Bond, Kinky, Sr. Mendez, etc It was crazy! Almost all are Grammy Nominees!! The album was mixed by mark Needham ( The killers, Bloc Party, Fleetwood Mac, etc..). It is worth the time to check it out.
