Local artists (media, promoters, and venues included) have put down their mics and guitars to really focus on the Miami music scene.

The project: To coexist, share ideas, and let the scene shine not just within the peninsula.
The name: Florida Music Get Together.

by Jessica Roiz

Being an artist is not easy, let alone being one in Miami, where your chances to strive must include a collaboration with Pitbull.  The local scene in this city is just as alluring, prosperous, and innovative as the scene in Los Angeles and New York City, but those qualities don't just cut it, and the Miami-based artists are ready to make a difference.  What began as a simple Facebook status for bands to get together for some coffee and chit-chat, turned into a successful event at The Annex music warehouse in Hialeah.

The Florida Music Get Together project was initiated by Radioboxer's bassist Jota Dazza, when his Facebook status had an astonishing reaction from other local musicians with the same vision and desire.  The event, hosted by Jota Dazza and Annex owner/Humbert lead, Ferni Coipel, surpassed expectations.  On January 17th, The Annex held a "getty" for local artists, promoters, media, and venues, where they had the opportunity to express their thoughts on the current scene, share ideas on how to exceed the grounds of self-promotion, and tips on how to be heard by any other outlet than the usual friends, family, and colleagues

Radioboxer, Humbert, Dear Darling, Electric Piquete, and Soundcircles were among the local bands that attended.  Miami-based producer and head of Forward Motion Records, Fernando Perdomo (who has worked with Juanes, Cristian Castro, and others) and Churchill's Pub owner Dave Daniels also formed part of this fascinating event.

Our musicians and artists came to kick some ass in 2012. The Florida Music Get Together does not end here, this project is intended to hold weekly/monthly events for ongoing ideas and experiences and to indulge uprising talents.  The Miami local scene is just as intense, dedicated, and determined as any other city's and together, these aspiring musicians will let that be known!
