This week is the yearly anticipated South Beach Food and Wine festival. All you foodies and Food Network junkies probably have your tickets for the Grand Tasting Village, Bubble Q, and Burger Bash, but those of us that slacked on getting tickets or can't afford the ticket, fear not! There's plenty of other things to do.
Those of you looking for something to do after work today can check out Emerge Miami's Board Game Night at Sweat Records (8pm). If you haven't heard of Emerge, they are a network of pretty awesome social activists that organize and help you organize fun and educational activities. Board Game night is one of their monthly events, and it's always a good time. Expect Scrabble, Apples to Apples, Boggle, Jenga, etc. Feel free to bring your own games too! Also, while you're at Sweat we recommend that you try the Unicorn Love Bomb. It's a double shot of mocha espresso topped with a vegan marshmallow. It's just as magical as it sounds. Afterwords, head to The Corner for Nightdrive's Hi-Fi Tuesdays (11pm). This week features Patrick Walsh vs. Terence Tabeau mixing this type of audio goodness.
Friday brings us a few parties to check out. First up is PhilanthroFest at The Stage. Collect some karma points with your $10 donation and indulge in 2x1 drinks until 10pm. The money goes to local non-profits and artists - excellent. The party culminates with a special performance by Locos Por Juana since the PhilanthroFest later turns into the Locos Tour Kick-Off Party. These guys always put on a brilliant show, so if Latin Alternative is your sound then this is where you should be.
Critical Mass is also this Friday which meets at Government Center at 6:30pm (the ride starts at 7:15pm). If you're not familiar with Mass, it's a tour de force bike ride that happens the last Friday of every month. Bikes, skateboards, roller skaters, even unicyclists participate in the ride and it's definitely a Miami experience that you should be part of at least once. Check out more info and tips on Mass here to keep you safe, as well as from acting a fool. The ride starts at Gov Center, but where does it end? In Emerald City! No, not really. It usually ends at The Filling Station to get some grub, but The Vagabond is opening at 9:30pm (which in Miami time probably means 10pm) for Mass riders, and there's no cover for all until 11pm. One of my favorite rock n rollers Deaf Poets will be performing. They have an organic rock n roll blues sound a la Black Keys that is pretty infectious.
Lastly, end your week with the second installment of Sundays on the Green at Wynwood Green (noon - 7pm). The concept is to bring together environmentally friendly businesses, non-profits, and artists and introduce our local community to the hidden gems that this city has to offer. Make sure to bring some cash because vendors include local produce growers, sweets, vintage items, etc. There will also be live performances by Raffa and Rainer, Jesse Jackson, and Jason Joshua Hernandez, a presentation on Rising Water Levels in Florida by Climate Reality Project, and a hot yoga class (1pm) by Pablo Lucero. Show your support for events like these so we can help our city grow!
