Description
LECTURE ON NETSUKE
Saturday, October 17, 2009, 10:30 AM
Presented by Joseph Kurstin, M.D.
Netsuke is a miniature carving which serves as a toggle for a removable pocket used by middle and upper class Japanese men from the early 17th century to the later part of the 19th century when western clothes were introduced. They are often works of great artistic merit and extraordinary craftsmanship carved from ivory, wood, bone, and other materials.
