Puerto Rico's finest reggae band, Cultura Profetica, have just released their fifth studio album since M.O.T.A in 2005.  They are primarily known for their social, political, and ecological lyrics but La Dulzura shows us a whole other side of Cultura.

Word on the street is that not many people are pleased with this production, just because it's nothing compared to Cultura's previos stuff.  The album begins with a song called Rimas Pa' Seducir, to clearly explain why "La Dulzura" is filled with so many love songs.

En estos dias busco amor

Pensar en cosas que me hagan reir

Me sobran rimas al dolor

Por eso hoy solo busco

busco inverter

There was a leaked acoustic version of La Complicidad before it was placed on the album, and I have loved it since.  The studio version is just as amazing; same breathtaking metaphors in the lyrics but with more rhythm.

Despite the fact that they came more mellow and infatuated than ever, they also found time to experiment with new sounds.  Those tracks include Del Tope Al Fondo, which will make you feel like a Puerto Rican in Argentina because of the sweet combination of tango and reggae.  In Me Faltabas Tu, they leave behind the reggae and bring in the bolero.  The lyrics are gorgeous but I just don’t like the way it makes me feel as if I’m enjoying a live band in Picadilly.

And for the cry babies that were expecting the controversial and sin pelos en la lengua Cultura Profetica, there is Somos Mucho.  A single that was debuted in Puerto Rico’s Radio Huelga and heard during the Fuerza de Choque en la Universidad.

I always knew these carribeños had their sensual side which can be found in their old stuff like “Donde no alcanza mi verso”, but I didn’t know they could get down and dirty like in Ilegal, which without a doubt is one of my favorites.  The soft reggae mixed with a dab of porn movie music (just a dab) goes great with the aphrodisiac lyrics.  Cultura Profetica invaded everyone’s personal space with this one, and it’s kinda kinky ;).

So, even if they notched it down a bit with the lyrics in this album, “La Dulzura” is still the same reggae and Cultura Profetica still has the same swagger.

Track List:
01 Rimas pa'seducir
02 La complicidad
03 Amante luz
04 Para estar
05 En la oscuridad
06 Baja la tensión
07 Ilegal
08 Somos muchos
09 Del tope al fondo
10 Me faltabas tú
11 Verso terso
12 La espera
