Lil Daggers is a psych-rock band based in Miami FL.
Their first full length album dropped in late April and it’s not so bad. I probably over use these adjectives, but here it goes: it’s druggy, drone-y, post-psychedelic and a little bit garage-y. Its nice that these guys are still making music. They’ve been around for a few years and I believe even played SXSW in 2009. They tour all the time and have recorded a lot of EPs and 10’’ records.
I appreciate passion, and that can really fly out the freaking window when a band bottle rockets to stardom. What even makes a band soar to “fame”? Is it luck? Is it really who you know? Or is it creating some sort of persona, an act, a character, a facade? Why is it that Miami is full of so many talented artists and musicians and the ones that get any kind of recognition aren’t even THAT FUCKING GOOD. Smoke and mirrors might hypnotize the typical slave to the scene, but for those of you with the 20/20 night-vision, I’m sure see the point I’m getting at.
Lil Daggers is music you can get drunk and move your body to. Dada Brown, the sixth track, makes me want to smoke pot and dance in pretty flower fields, naked. Dead Golden Girls is melodic-neurotic-exotic song that would play excellently on a stoned car ride. If the Phantom of the Opera were a pot-head scenester, he’d probably fart the tune of Give Me The Pill.
As far as local music goes, Lil Daggers is definitely one of Miami’s better offerings and leaves out all that pretentious fake bullshit to boot.
