Never-ending PACHANGA directly from a small city of the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Argentine dub-stepper/rock star resides in a city from the Argentine province Buenos Aires called Morón, which explains the reason behind the title of his debut album. Morón City Groove is Matias Mendez AKA El Chavez's first solo album after his trajectory in bands such as Arbol and Nuca.
The first track on the album is called "Monterrey," which off the back lets you know that this album is going down as a party starter! If you are aware of El Chavez's musical style, you'd know that there will be a lot of powerdub involved, yet, Morón City Groove includes all types of world beats and rhythms. Take for instance, San Genaro, in which the first five seconds throw you off guard making it sound like a reggaeton track, but then it merges into an eclectic combination of digital cumbia with heavy electric guitar riffs. Rosamaria is the track that caught my attention the most. It is a reggae-inspired track with sweet digital arrangements and a touch of rock here and there. Calendario surely follows Rosamaria in being one of my favorites. The soft cumbia and elegant acoustic guitars that dominate this track, make it the most sensual one of the bunch.
It was the first time I heard of El Chavez, and even so of bands such as Arbol and Nuca. It was also my first time listening to Morón City Groove and because this beautiful and mystical production left me an immense curiosity, I think that soon I will have my first visit to Morón City.
