This is where soul and flavor meets the nineties old school jam!
Chico Mann, a fresh project in the hands of a Cuban born and New York based artist named Marcos Garcia. I heard Chico Mann is pretty big in Australia, but I think it's time to skyrocket that fame to the top, of course he doesn't need our help, but spreading the word around does help and that is why I bring you my humble review on this 2010 release "Analog Drift."
Being the son of a Latin record label owner, having trajectory as the guitar player for Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, and being highly influenced by Cuban son and sazon, Chico Mann opens the doors to his innovative mind. "Harmonia" is the attention-getter, the first track that promises an hypnotizing sensation. Just imagine all the harm that the sounds of deep bass and sensual jazz can do. Moving on, you get a taste of more of that creative twist of sensuality, but with a bit of 90's retro freestyle music, such as in "All that is Rising" and "Go to that place."
For me, the Analog Drift doesn't really kick in until a happy go-lucky track called "Hay Que Correr." The mesmerizing electronic and synth beats with that aphrodisiac touch of afro-Cuban funk really takes out the best of the last five tracks on this album, especially in the closing track "This Love."
