Although different from their previous album Mirrored, the brand new Battles album Gloss Drop is everything that you'd expect from a group with members formerly in bands such as Don Cabellero, Lynx, and Helmet.
The album opener, "Africastle", takes you through a stone wall corridor, past eerie knight statues, gauntlets, and cobwebs until a pair of large wooden doors cross your path. Kick it open and you'll find yourself in an ageless dance party, where the castles inhabitants are forever young and dancing viciously. This type of imagery that Battles provides takes you on a musical journey filled with syncapating synthesizers, futuristic loops, monster organ melodies, and sounds of happiness. A great album that's good for grooving and playing bocce ball.
