She went all out this time around.
It has been four years since Chilean-American songstress Francisca Valenzuela made her debut with "Muerdete la Lengua," her 2011 release, "Buen Soldado" is just another hint that this woman is not going anywhere for a loooooooong time.
In "Buen Soldado," Valenzuela brings 12 tracks that are focused on numerous topics. Let’s begin with the opening track which gives honor to the album’s title, a western inspired track where the Chilean beau puts herself in the shoes of a man and flaunts arrogance and machismo as if her name was Francisco and not Francisca. From manhood, Valenzuela merges to the wonderful mind of la mujer, where she expresses her ideals and feelings in two giddy pop songs called "Mujer Modelo" and "Esta Soy Yo." "Corazon" and "Cronica" are two tracks that caught my attention due to its slow piano-based melody and sensual flair; in these tracks, Valenzuela's smooth voice reminds me a lot of Fiona Apple back in her Criminal and Slow like Honey days.
So let’s see, she sings about love, about being a good soldier, about being an authentic woman, she also sings about a job interview in "Entrevista"...what else could possibly be missing? Oh, I know. Infidelity! The first single off the album is called "Quiero Verte Mas," an upbeat track that is directo al grano: I don't care if you are taken, I want to keep seeing you. The smooth jazz and funk song "Yo Lo Busco" is also focused on the raunchy world of infidelity, where Valenzuela has the descaro to say "yo manana te pondre mi cara de fidelidad, de felicidad..." and basically admits that it’s hard to be a one-man woman.
