Avery upbeat album from a very depressed frontman.
The cult Cardiff indie-outfit Los Campesinos! are back with Hello Sadness, and boy do they mean "hello sadness". Writing the album after a break up, frontman Gareth Campesinos bears his heart out while managing to sound as happy-go-lucky as always. Hello Sadness is filled with bigger beats and higher crescendos than their previous works, and while they've shown sounds of growth, the album still sounds like good and basic indie pop-rock but coming from the fact that this is the band's fourth album, "basic" is pretty much a bummer.
3 Songs Worth Listening:
- "Hello Sadness" - Starts out pretty basic but it climaxes into one of more beautiful parts of the whole album.
- "The Black Bird, The Dark Slope" - References to Robert Smith, sharp drumming, and lovely violin.
- "Hate for the Island" - One of the darker songs in the album. Pretty melody, a little bit lo-fi, short and sweet.
This album makes me want to: tell Gareth it's going to be alright.
