Kinky has done it again. Kinky style. I must admit that I kinda drifted away from them after the release of 'Atlas'. For 'Barracuda'(released on 02/24/09) Kinky geared up and played around with all of their toys. Lots of sampling, lots of synth bass, lots of electronics along with tight drums, punchy bass lines, sharp guitar riffs and well rounded vocals. The album starts with 'Hasta Quemarnos' in which the lyrics hint you to what to expect from the album… bailar hasta quemarnos.
Barracuda has a lot of rhythm, you can hear it throughout the album especially on the very first tracks. My very favorite has to be 'Avion' because of its existential lyrics. Most of the lyrics on the album are current, some other songs I just can’t figure out like 'Tachimaripedoncocongo' which I have no clue what it means, but this song makes me wanna bike across Biscayne blvd at 50 miles per hour.
You can tell barracuda was conceived with love by Kinky and co-produced by Money Mark and Chico Sonido. This is a band that keeps on growing. They never stop experimenting with different sounds and influences. Barracuda is particularly influenced by the 80's, but the good 80's. Kinky successfully did the English/Spanish crossover thing on a couple of tracks as well, especially on the almost entirely electronic jam 'The Day I Lost The Beat' ... I doubt they ever do. Oh wait... that sounds kinda Kinky!
