Danger Mouse has yet another music-victim! That's right, he also had to jump in and help The Black Keys with their latest album "Attack & Release". Scary, right? Not really. I actually was hoping they were going to change drastically. This time Danger Mouse did not push them into completely uncharted waters. The album does sound noticeably different from their earlier works, but in a logical and exciting manner. Instead of stridently sticking to the guitar and drums combo, there are some new sounds on here - an organ, bells and other
tinkly stuff. The core dynamic is still the rise and fall of the guitar and drums, the beard and the glasses keeps them stuck in the 70's, no matter what.
This album isn't anything we haven't heard before, just one more alt-rock band stuck in what was. It doesn't have any hit songs, a few approach single-like status, such as "I Got Mine", "Strange Times" and the closing "Things Ain't Like They Used To Be", but it seems that the bigger picture of this record is still pretty dull. That Mouse should have whipped them into better shape!
