Libido is making a big come back in 09 with their sixth production “Un dia nuevo” as Peru’s premier and forefront rock band. 14 tracks of Brit-pop influenced music that show a much more matured band striving to establish a signature sound commanded by Salim Vera’s confident and sometimes unusual vocal textures and well produced guitar tracks. “Un dia Nuevo” brings out probably some of the most daring and well written material from these Peruvian rockers.
“Enloquece” steady and then explodes. “Malvada” shows a more eclectic Vera, pushing his vocal chords to saturation. Nicely done. Probably the lowest scoring track is “Something”. The band comes a little short on the only English track in the album. But there are plenty of high scores on the rest of the album. The single “Nadie sabe lo que vendra” has a rock version and perfectly crafted country-like acoustic version that has tall the right American folk elements. “Cielo apunta abajo” puts Libido’s songwriting and prduction skills to the test… and they get an A+ for it.
Libido is in the middle of a big marketing campaign promoting this new musical work. They are currently scheduled for plenty of dates in Peru and other South American countries. I’m sure they’ll do a few US stops towards the end of the year. Be on the lookout to catch them live.
