This is a very interesting release from L.A.’s new wonder kids Montenegro. Good vocals, strong bilingual lyrics and a sound that jumps from indie to reggae and back to rock with catchy melodies. This production is rich and well elaborated and it makes an excellent carta de presentacion for this Montenegro kids, landing great gigs and media appearances in the US and Latin America this year. Solid baby steps for this chiguelines. Track highlights: Pretty much all 5 tracks, especially “Loco port u amor” and “Pasajeros (Inmigrant’s lament)”, rich in great guitar tracks and strong vocal work.
I’m not inclined to be fully open to pop sound, but I’m a sucker for good songwriting when I hear it, so Montenegro puts people like me in a terrible predicament. These songs might not get you on the first try, but if you are brave enough to give them a second chance, you won’t be able to get Montenegro’s music out of your head. Trust me, I’m still singing “Loco por quererte, loco por amarte” while in the bathroom. Yes, TMI but it’s true…
