Venezuelan rockers Malanga have worked hard since the 1999, and their sound has fully matured in this 4th studio work. “Aunque mueran las flores” is a nicely produced pop-rock album that showcases the band’s 80’s metal-meets-Blink182 sound that is not only airwave friendly, but it’s also made to guarantee you a successful romantic date with your girlfriend, as well as a wild night with that tattooed girl you met last night at that rock bar. Track highlights: “Dime” sounds good and has a nicely produced video, “En stereo” is a great track for the synth-rock loving crowd from Ft Lauderdale, “Mi adiccion” goes from pop to punk in 1.2 seconds, and “Sin ti” is a romantic ballad that promises to get you back with your girlfriend, when she finds out about that tattooed girl.
Understand that Malanga’s music does not attempt to create any new musical mix of any kind or explore sophisticated beat patterns, it’s just a good straight-up/pop-rock collection of tracks with a production quality to be proud of. Personally not what I’ll carry on my Shuffle, but something I’ll keep in my I-tunes library for sure… maybe for a wild night with a tattooed girl of my own.
