So you love cumbia but are in need of that extra punch to take her out to dance? Look no further, add a little electronica to it. That's right, Zizek (Also known as Zizek Urban Beats Club) gathers the best DJs porteños (from Buenos Aires) in this mind-blowing electrifying cumbia album.
From the crazy sounds of "Gauchito Gil" by Fauna, a song that would typically sound cheap in the outskirts of Argentina, transformed by synths and 'A bailarrrrrr' lyrics (emphasis on the rrrr!), all the way to "Piolaboy" by 8GB, the comedy relief in this album, telling the story of Mario--the infamous video game plumber-- in Argentinian slang. The lyrics go perfect with the song, since they also used bit sounds to paint this hilarious picture.
"Brooklyin Cumbia" by Uproot Andy has no lyrics, but it's hypnotizing all the same. This is what modern cumbia sounds like nowadays. But don't think this is all that there is to ZZK Sounds Vol. 2. There's also plenty of collaborations from underground rappers and remixers, and the sounds vary throughout so you won't get tired of listening to cumbia. If you have the time (and the space), lend your hips to this ground-breaking album.
