Although some critics have referred to Lisandro Aristimuño as the "Thom Yorke" for the south, I must say he only falls a few notes short from it. But then again his career is nowhere near as log as Thom's and... why are we comparing his neo-folklore (which is how i'd like to call his style) to a completely different british star? Because Lisandro has created that much of a hype, I guess. Being from the southern and coldest parts of Argentina, Lisandro Aristimuño is a singer/songwriter that focuses on bringing the Patagonia-folk sounds in a modern way. His vocals are soft but mournful, (some may complain that he sounds like he cries a lot) but they really capture the beauty and richness of all the different styles that South America has to offer.
On his fourth studio album titled "Las Crónicas Del Viento", a two disc set, Lisandro explores the more upbeat side of his stories, starting with a little german girl's voice speaking, building up to a sharp and playful chorus in "ABC". "Es todo lo que tengo y es todo lo que hay" includes violins and colorful strings with strong percussion, leading right into a softer yet still beating "Fin, 2, 3" filled with distant choir voices.
What surprised me in a beautiful way was to hear Fito Paez's voice in the second part of "Desprender Del Sur", caught me by surprise! Their voices go together perfectly and I feel as if they wrote this song from the standpoint of citizens of the interior, taking on the world and looking for more. "Cosas De Un Soñador" and "Caminata" are the sweetest songs in this album, played with charangos almost like a waltz. "Azucar Del Estero" is also a real cute song with little samples combined and joyful and optimistic lyrics. His other single "Fecundación (Te llamo sin parar)" has almost a sorrowful melody and a minute long soft guitar introduction that shows a huge contrast when his voice and his back ups kick in. This album is quite addictive and will definitely put you in a comfy-mellow mood. Give it a listen! Here's the track-listing:
