Alright so, I feel a need to expose the other side of this little editor, who supports some of the alternative-punk-emo out there. It's good I swear! And now that I've convinced you fully, let's take a look at Brand New. Brand New is one of the best of this genre out there. They've been around for a few years now, and the focus really is on their poetic yet pretty intense lyrics, all written by their frontman Jesse Lacey. They used to feature a lot of screaming in their first releases (it's what was really trendy at the time) but on their last two albums they have toned it down about a decibel or two. Well what did you expect?! it adds up to the anger, despair and disappointment he usually expresses in his songs.

On their latest release named "Daisy", they start with a quite creepy old tune that honestly lasts for too long. Towards the middle of the song they decide to appear, very angrily and abruptly. That's as far as "Vices" goes. Followed by "Bed" a softer track that starts with 'My head is lit/I don't ever want to go to bed/Your hair is on fire'--catches my attention for the next three minutes. A lot of this style relies on the beat of the drums, and this song carries along steadily with the pauses on all the right moments. And as Jessey chants towards the end: lie to all your friends/lie to all your friends. "At The Bottom" follows beautifully right after, with quite somber lyrics, (a classic for them) talking about how it would have been nicer to die younger like he preached in his older albums. Some men die under the mountain looking for gold/some die looking for a hand to hold is the line that keeps re-playing on my head. After this, "Gasoline" and most of the tracks get noisy and angry once more. "You Stole" saves us once more with bitter slow melodies lead steadily by their drummer. "Be Gone" has to be one of the weirdest tracks I've heard. Followed by a folk-country guitar, the vocals have lyrics, I know it, but they are all cut as if the album was skipping throughout the song. Pretty creepy but hypnotizing. That basically sums up this album. Not their best but a few key tracks save it from getting two stars.

4. Gasoline
