From the hands of Arts&Crafts comes Timber Timbre, 'one more indie band' I thought, but something in me told me to download their album (maybe because they were offering it for free, and anything free has to be good) and they surprised me. As their website claims: "Timber Timbre stops you. The elements are deceptively simple: a confident, but hushed voice, understated guitar, strings and keyboard flourishes, and a subtle percussive beat. Timber Timbre front man Taylor Kirk is haunted by the history of pop music." They had me at their first chords! They are very simple and old-school, almost minimalist but full of feeling.

"Demon Host" starts with his soft howling vocals and almost weak guitars, so tired and calm, they catch your attention and make you sit down. "Lay Down In The Tall Grass" has church synths, they focus a lot in blues and gospel but make it almost dark and mysterious. "I Get Low" has a somber keyboard on the back almost ghoul-like, mystified by slow jazz drums in the background. "Trouble Comes Knocking" wants to be blues, it has the same vibe and rhythm, but it falls short in strength. This makes it even more mysterious, and his voice is what takes you towards the light. Give this a listen, it'll surely surprise you.

  1. Demon Host
  2. Lay Down In The Tall Grass
  3. Until the night is over
  4. Magic Arrow
  5. We'll find out
  6. I get low
  7. Trouble comes knocking
  8. No bold villain
Sounds like:
+ Bruce Peninsula
+ Years
+ The Wooden Sky
