By Kid Bomba
Believe it or not the gorgeous Norah Jones has put down her soft, cute and jazzed-out artistic mask of her three first albums, and in "The Fall" she explores alternative rock territory, showing a little darker and a bit more aggressive side of her.
Produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse) this album presents a new artistic mask from Jones. One that seems to embrace difficult life experiences (her break up with a long time boyfriend), challenges her artistic boundaries and celebrates her roots by singing her own blues. Overdriven guitars are probably not the most representing sound for Jones, but in "The Fall", it complements the different approach she embarked on for
the project, that was tastefully done and well recorded.
Track Highlights: "Chasing Pirates","Even though" and "Young Blood" are tracks that are not what you might expect from Jones, but they are great, guitar driven songs. "I wouldn't need you" might just be one of the best love songs I've heard in recent years.
But also within this album you find songs like "Back to Manhatten" and "December" that pay tribute to her hardcore followers, in love with her softer side.
Jones has just unveiled a 32 city US Tour to support "The Fall" and added 4 confirmed dates in Europe right after. Even though So FL is nowhere in the plans, I'm hoping there will be room to have her down here. Until then, I recommend that if this album was not in your Xmas list, make it part of your New Year resolution.
