The thing about Charlotte is that she is so nonchalantly sensual that it somehow twists into a very matter-of-fact force. Channeling this sensuality into her album, plus pairing it up with production by Beck, an excellent collaboration is born.
IRM opens up with 'Masters Hands' which consists of heavy bass, minimal strings, and then there's Charlotte's voice... a blanket of mist covering all the instruments and floating amidst the night. 'IRM' kicks it up a notch with more intense and intricate drumming, this is where the matter-of-fact sensuality takes over, and it just keeps on going throughout the rest of the album. As IRM continues the pair explore the realm of pop tension and melancholy, keeping it sultry and edgy. This effect is best heard in 'Trick Pony' -my favorite track- which has a great Led Zep feel to it. Then there's also 'Heaven Can Wait' which leaves you saying "fuck, this is so good" from it's swaying drum beat, a conflicting piano, and a horn section that ties it all together while Charlotte's and Beck's voice harmonize together.
Alas, this is a great work of art that properly falls into place because it doesn't have the trying-to-hard force. After all, with Beck's musical genius and Charlotte's genetic make-up they probably didn't need to try at all.
