We haven’t heard from them since their Aqui 10 Años live album in 2003 but with more than 15 years of being in the Spanish rock scene, Bohemia Suburbana released their sixth album and reminded fans why we loved them in the first place.

Bohemia Suburbana is known as one of the greatest bands of Guatemala since 1992.  Current members are from Guatemala, Colombia, and Peru.  Straight from the suburbs, they bring us their latest self-titled album.

While at times the sound can be generic, there are melodic flourishes that make up for certain lackluster moments.  Lyric wise, they are simple, direct, and relate to the mundane.

"El Diablo" is the first single of the album and moreover one of the catchy upbeat tracks.  The lyrics repeatedly say "Que puedo hacer? Si lo que Dios me apaga, el diablo me lo enciende".  It may be a controversial topic to touch but listening to this track over and over again, it is far away from the religious aspect.  In fact, it's focused more on deception and the good and bad decision making techniques that people tend to do in life.

As for their love songs, I really enjoy the laid-back rhythm and guitar riffs found in "Quiero Decir".  The song is not entirely about puppy love, rather it is about a hopeless romantic who is finding the courage to tell their loved one what they really feel.  I know, a bit cliche, but indeed a cute song for lovers and dreamers.

"No Vale El Olvido" is another one of my favorite tracks on the album.  The aphrodisiac bass reminds me a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers and of course Bohemia Suburbana has their originality spark which makes the melody of this track a delight.

"Relajate Mujer", "Cuando me Hablas", and "Sobrevolar" are other amazing songs I suggest from the 11-track list.

In this album, the guys are on the softer side, prior to their previous albums which portray the edgy side of the band.  Nonetheless, Bohemia Suburbana stay true to their alternative Latin roots and provide us with their essence in album number 6.
