I got my hands on Future Breeds, I'll admit that I'm not too fond of the english scene, but Hot Hot Heat is one of the few bands I've always loved. Now, only because I've loved them throughout their career, doesn’t mean I'm going to love everything they do!
Maybe because my ears have been pleased by other tunes and artists or maybe I'm not that big of a fan after all? But Future Breeds did not complete me. On the other hand, I refuse to bash an album so I will fill you in with the ups from this album.
Musically, these guys nailed it. They are a mix of indie rock, electronic, rockabilly ... literally everything and anything minus the salsa and bossanova and that's what sets them aside from any other band in the indie scene.
Having that talent, the melodies found in Future Breeds are off the chain. Yes, I've noticed that the 12 tracks on this album basically keep the same monotone rhythms, and that can and DID become a bit boring. The good thing is that as one-tempo as it is, this album will keep your feet glued to the dance floor. Why? Well, because it's not really that boring as it seems, promise. They keep you awake with violent piano/guitar riffs and other experimental quirky sounds that only they can make cool.
Lyrically? I don't know. They scream in almost every track.
I don't want to burst your bubble, I didn't even want to burst my own, but the songs in Future Breeds are not as memorable as their previous stuff.

Despite everything I previously said, they are still Canada's best!
