Finally, someone that loves mother nature and the world enough to make it into an album. Consider Macaco's Puerto Presente a wake up call to society!
This album has been out since last year but it has not yet been released in the United States, therefore, I am letting you know about this AMAZING production beforehand.
Without a doubt, Macaco absorbed the mundane because this album is vital, positive, and rhythmic with a powerful global message. You will come across various danceable rhythms like hip hop, rocksteady, pop, rumba, and world music, all with the purpose to make you pay attention to his lyrics! Very, very, veeeery earthly lyrics at that.
Aqui Ahora is the 45 second opener, where sounds of a ship in an ocean mix with this beautiful quote, "No hay pasado ni futuro en la existencia. La existencia es solo presente." It's an invitation to join this voyage.
It then merges into the second track which goes by the name of the album, Puerto Presente. The Ooh ooh ooh's and lelelele's mixed with the dj scratches and a man telling you that "life passes by while you make your plans" are some of the reasons the staff at the Fabrika office were jamming to this one a couple of times.
Skipping a couple of tracks (but still worth the listen), there is Moving, the first single. Behind the claps and bouncy beat, there is a simple message for nature "One move for just one dream". The video (found at the end) counts with the participation of Javier Bardem, Javier Cámara, Rosario Flores, Juanes, Juan Luis Guerra, Carlinhos Brown, Orishas, Antonio Carmona, Nubla, Pitingo, LaMari de Chambao and Bebe.
As earthly and ecological as it gets, this album also contains a few songs dedicated to the aquatic , Mensajes del Agua, Amor Marinero, and Aguiita to name a few. These tracks are a nice form to find refuge from the horrible oil spill that has infected our oceans.
We hear these words of advice all the time (maybe not exact), "Don't let the world destroy your smile", Mundo Roto is an optimistic way to look at life, I can even say, lyrics to live by ;).
My favorite track on the album is No Love. The beats may seem a bit "Black Eyed Peas" but nada que ver, it's way more authentic and fresh! The chorus says "There's no love, just the acts of love", there's many ways to interpret this song. I see it as a call for PEACE.
I also like the seond to last song, La Ley del Uno, once again, a message of amor. No, not a love song for your media mitad. Obviously, Macaco is too occupied with reality and society to be focusing on just one person.
Puerto Presente is an album with new sounds, new instruments, and new philosophical-engaging-catchy ways to make everyone get up and make a difference.
